When I first threw the Element Magma wheels on my setup, I wasn’t expecting much.
Element’s usually known more for their decks than their wheels. But after a few weeks of street sessions, transition runs while also some smooth park runs, I’ve got a good feel for what these things are all about. Spoiler: they surprised me in a few ways.
First Impressions
The Magmas come in clean white urethane with a crisp Element logo and that signature “magma” graphic that gives them a little pop without being loud. Mine where 52mm, 99A, and cut into that classic round profile that most street skaters love. They look simple and pro, not trying too hard, which I respect.
Right out of the shrink wrap, they’re rock hard and smooth, the kind of wheel that screams street skating and technical control.
Street Performance:
On rough city pavement, these things are honest — you’ll feel every crack and pebble. That’s not a complaint, though. Hard wheels like these (99A) are built for feedback.
You get that snappy connection between board and concrete that makes every trick feel crisp and direct.
They slide predictably too. Powerslides break out cleanly without getting choppy, and you can catch ledge reverts or nose slides without worrying about sticky urethane. They’re not buttery like some softer 97A wheels, but that’s not their lane, these are for control and consistency.
For technical skating, they’re dialed. They roll fast enough to keep one’s lines flowing, and the smaller size helps keep your center of gravity low for flick tricks. You’ll notice quicker pop and easier rotation on flips, especially if you’re coming from bigger or softer wheels.
Park Performance:
In properly smooth parks, they’re great! Quite responsive, quick, and light. But if you’re bombing big transitions or bowls, you’ll probably should go for something a touch bigger (say 54–56mm) for better speed retention. Still, for ledges, rails, and mini ramps, they feel balanced and grippy enough to stay locked when you want, and slick enough to slide when you don’t.
Grip and Slide:
The Element Magma wheels strike a solid balance between grip and slide. On smooth concrete and skatepark surfaces, they offer reliable traction for flip tricks, manuals, and ledge work. Their relatively hard urethane allows controlled slides for boardslides, powerslides, and quick direction changes, making them predictable and manageable.
While they won’t provide the plush grip of softer wheels or the effortless slides of premium slide-specific wheels, they remain versatile for both street and park skating. On rough terrain, the ride can feel stiff and grip slightly inconsistent, but overall they deliver dependable performance for skaters seeking a budget-friendly, all-around wheel.
Durability and Flat spotting
After a few weeks of daily skating, the Magma wheels hold their shape well. The urethane doesn’t chunk or cone quickly, and they resist flat spots pretty decently for a mid-tier wheel. You can get some faint vibration after heavy slide abuse, but that’s expected for this hardness.
They’re not “forever wheels,” but for the price and what you get, the durability’s solid. They’ll easily last a few months of consistent skating before you even think about replacing them.
