Skatepark Linkeroever

Antwerp’s Riverside Revival

Across the Scheldt River, on Antwerp’s laid-back Linkeroever side, there’s a concrete gem that’s quietly become a heartbeat of the local skate scene. The Linkeroever Skatepark wasn’t just dropped into place, it grew out of years of locals wanting a real space to ride. For decades, this part of the city felt like an afterthought, sitting in the shadow of Antwerp’s busier right bank. But in the mid-2010s, things started to shift.

As part of the city’s big plan to revive Linkeroever’s public spaces, the municipality green-lit a modern skatepark along Jachthavenweg, right by the river. The design went to Concrete Skateparks, a team known for building flowing, high-quality parks across Europe. They ditched the prefab metal ramps and went full concrete — a smooth, street-style setup with ledges, rails, banks, and wide open lines.

By 2016, the park officially opened, and locals wasted no time making it their second home. From skaters and BMX riders to inline bladers and street photographers, the spot quickly became a meeting ground. The view over the Scheldt and Antwerp skyline turned every sunset session into something a little special.

What makes Linkeroever stand out isn’t just the design, it’s the vibe. The park blends city-backed infrastructure with grassroots energy. Skaters repaint rails when the weather wears them down, the city patches cracks, and the graffiti tells the story of who’s been there lately. It’s maintained as much by the people who ride it as by the crews who built it.

Sure, it faces its share of issues, weather exposure, occasional flooding, and heavy daily use but that’s part of its realness. No gloss, just a raw piece of concrete culture that belongs to everyone.

As Linkeroever continues to evolve with new green belts, waterfront paths, and city upgrades rolling in — the skate park remains one of its most loved public spaces. It’s not massive, but it doesn’t have to be. What it offers is flow, freedom, and a front-row view of a city that’s learning how to blend urban development with authentic street life.

Today, Skatepark Linkeroever stands as a symbol of what can happen when a city listens to its locals, a slab of concrete turned into a living, breathing part of Antwerp’s creative pulse.
